Finance Ministry Team Drawing

 

The Finance Ministry Team will be holding a drawing for two $50.00 restaurant cards at the end of May. The first card will be for all who have been using SHUMC's Online Giving before January 1, 2019. The second card will be for all who have signed up for Online Giving from the beginning of this year. Don’t miss out. . .sign up for Online Giving today!  If you choose to sign up, there are two ways to do this:

 

GiveOnline


—One option is to access the SHUMC church website at http://www.shumcstgeorge.com/, click on the Online Giving tab, and set up your Online Giving. This option allows you to have complete control to set up Online Giving and make any changes, if necessary, whenever you want. You can choose your checking or savings account or your credit or debit card in order to set up a recurring donation. Your payment is processed within two business days of the day you schedule your withdrawal and the money is deposited directly into the church bank account.

 

—You can fill out an EFT (electronic funds transfer) form, and turn it in to the  Financial Secretary, who will then enter the information in order to start your Online Giving. Your payment is processed within two business days of the day you schedule your withdrawal and the money is deposited directly into the church bank account. Using this method will require you to contact the Financial Secretary any time that you need or want to make changes.

 

This is a great way to show your regular support for our church. Benefits to SHUMC from Online Giving include:

  • Providing a more predictable income flow for better church financial planning
  • Reducing time and effort in processing collections by SHUMC staff/volunteers
  • Increasing faithful offerings to the church due to consistent and automatic donations

Work Trip to Short Creek

 

downloadThe Missions Team, in conjunction with the Neighbor-to-Neighbor Program, will be conducting a mission trip to the Short Creek Ministries from May 22-May 25, 2019. Short Creek Ministries is a Christian outreach devoted to helping young men and women seeking to transition from polygamist lifestyles. They provide safe shelter, housing, food, and services designed to help this struggling population find their place in society.

 

The goal of the trip is to assist with light remodeling such as drywall and painting, general house repair, and cleaning and organizing the Heritage House. The Heritage House is a 10,000 square foot home that provides a safe environment for this important outreach.

 

There is parking on-site for about three RVs, and some rooms are available. There is also RV parking at the Kaibab Piute Reservation Campground, located near Pipe Springs, about 15 miles south of Colorado City. If you are interested in helping but can’t dedicate that much time, day assistance will be much appreciated! Short Creek is about an hour drive from St. George, and carpools may be available. We will need to provide our own meals for this trip.

 

We need people of all skill levels. A sign-up sheet will be posted in the Narthex, and if you would like additional information regarding this outreach, please contact Gregg Freeman, Mike Cummins, or Bob Moffitt.


 

From the Missions Ministry Team

 

  • Our Short Creek Missions trip is scheduled for next week, 5/22/19 through 5/25/19. If you are able to assist, even if for a day, please contact Gregg Freeman or Mike Cummins for details.

  • Our Pinecliff Work Retreat/Missions Trip is scheduled for 8/24/19 through 8/30/19 this year. A sign-up sheet has been posted in the Narthex. If you plan on attending Pinecliff this year, please sign up as soon as possible so that we can beginning planning for this annual event.

  • We need assistance with serving at the Community Soup Kitchen on Friday, 5/24/19. The time is from 11:15 a.m. until approximately 1:30 p.m. There is a sign-up sheet in the narthex. If you have any questions, please contact Gregg or Toni Freeman.

  • Given that many people are gone for the summer, we will also need help with both Switchpoint and the Community Soup Kitchen during June and July. This is a great way to help people in our community. If you’re in town, and available to help, please sign up!           Thank you!!!

The next meeting of the United Methodist Men is scheduled for Saturday, May 18, 2019 at 8:00 a.m. at the Black Bear Diner in Washington. (Exit 13)

 

Fun for Lunch Bunch

Vacation Bible School

The Education Team is offering a Vacation Bible School this summer. The dates are Monday-Friday, June 10-June 14, 2019, 9:00a.m. to 12:00 Noon. The theme this year is “To Mars and Beyond”. We will explore the wonders of God’s universe together, becoming voyagers on a journey through space, seeing where God’s Power can take us. We will also celebrate the 50th anniversary of the first moonwalk. There will be lots of crafts, music, other fun activities, and, of course, very interesting bible stories. We will provide drinks and mid-morning snacks. We will provide lunch on the last day.

 

Children finishing kindergarten to those finishing fifth grade are welcome To register, stop by the church office to fill out an application. Please register by June 3, 2019.

 

We are also asking for volunteers. We need teachers (!) and helpers to assist with the activities. We also need five people to provide the snacks for one of the five days. There is a sign up sheet in the narthex.
